One of Thomastown’s most magical community events is returning this winter!
Families and friends gather in costumes and fairy lights for an evening of music, performance and light. From the Community Stage at Main Street Recreation Reserve (behind Thomastown Library), participants follow a 5km journey through illuminated artworks, giant lanterns, live music, street performances and unexpected surprises.
Walking Thomastown is proudly produced by the City of Whittlesea in partnership with Friends of Westgarthtown, TRAC, Yarra Plenty Regional Library and Thomastown Neighbourhood House.
TNH leads the Community Dance Project, which opens the event on the Community Stage. During Term 3, dancer and TNH team member Sandrine Dower will work with students from Thomastown Primary School and Thomastown West Primary School to create a special opening performance.
We welcome additional schools—if your school would like to participate, it is not too late to join.

Get ready to sing, dance, celebrate and be inspired!
"We Are the Champions" is the City of Whittlesea's largest International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) celebration, bringing together people of all abilities for a high-energy morning of entertainment, participation and community connection.
Far more than a concert, this interactive event puts people with disability centre stage, celebrating their talents, achievements, leadership and contributions to community life. Audiences can enjoy an exciting program of performances featuring inclusive choirs, dance groups, musicians, community performers and special guest acts from across Melbourne's north.
What makes We Are the Champions truly special is that everyone gets involved. Between performances, the energy lifts even higher as the event transforms into a giant interactive dance party, with participants, support workers, carers, families, volunteers and community members all invited onto the dance floor to celebrate together.
Expect music, movement, laughter, audience participation and plenty of moments that leave people smiling long after the event has ended.
Each year, the event attracts a diverse audience including people with disability, families, carers, disability service providers, community organisations, schools and local residents, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere where everyone belongs.
The International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations recognised day that promotes awareness, understanding, accessibility and inclusion while celebrating the achievements and contributions of people living with disability. We Are the Champions brings these values to life through a joyful community celebration that focuses on strengths, talents and possibilities.
Hosted at TRAC and proudly supported by Thomastown Neighbourhood House, Innovation Youth Projects and the City of Whittlesea, We Are the Champions has become one of the region's most anticipated all-abilities events—an uplifting celebration of diversity, participation and community spirit.
Whether you're performing, dancing, cheering from the audience or connecting with friends old and new, We Are the Champions is a reminder that everyone has something valuable to contribute—and everyone deserves a chance to shine.

Music on the Lawn is a relaxed, family-friendly community event that brings together local musicians, families, community organisations and residents for an afternoon of live music and connection in the beautiful surrounds of Ziebell's Farmhouse Museum and Heritage Garden.
Nestled within Thomastown's historic Westgarthtown Pioneer Precinct, Ziebell's Farmhouse is one of the area's best-kept secrets. Surrounded by heritage gardens, open green spaces and views stretching towards Edgars Creek, the venue provides a unique and picturesque setting for people to gather, relax and enjoy live music in the heart of their local community.
Previous events have showcased talented local performers including Thomastown favourites BOOF and The Boneweavers, celebrating the depth of musical talent found across Melbourne's northern suburbs. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic rug, settle in on the lawn and enjoy an afternoon of music, dancing and community spirit.
Music on the Lawn is also a valuable opportunity for local disability service providers, community organisations and support agencies to connect with residents in an informal and welcoming environment. By bringing together community members, families, musicians and service providers, the event helps strengthen local networks and create opportunities for inclusion, participation and belonging.

Taste of Thomastown
Celebrating the flavours, cultures and food traditions of Thomastown.
Produced by Thomastown Neighbourhood House from 2015–2022, Taste of Thomastown was a much-loved community event that celebrated the rich culinary heritage and food manufacturing excellence found right here in Thomastown.
The event brought together residents, local businesses, community groups and food lovers to discover the remarkable range of specialty food producers, manufacturers and family-owned businesses that call Thomastown home. Visitors enjoyed tastings, demonstrations, live entertainment and opportunities to meet the people behind many of the products found on tables across Melbourne and beyond.
Featured producers included local favourites such as That's Amore Cheese, Floridia Cheese, Ionica Fine Foods, TUROSI Food Solutions Group - Thomastown, Chris’ Foods, Palomba Antipasti and many other local food makers, distributors and specialty producers that contribute to Thomastown's reputation as one of Melbourne's hidden food manufacturing hubs.
Taste of Thomastown was more than a food festival—it was a celebration of migration, entrepreneurship, cultural diversity and community pride. Through food, stories were shared, cultures were celebrated, and connections were built between neighbours, businesses and community organisations.
While the event is no longer held annually, it remains a cherished part of TNH's history and a reminder of the extraordinary food culture that continues to thrive throughout Thomastown and the wider City of Whittlesea.

The Thomastown Neighbourhood House AGM is not just a meeting where the annual report is presented and official business takes place. It is also a celebration of the achievements of our community in Thomastown over the 12 months and shines a light on the great contribution of our Volunteer Team through the TNH Volunteer Awards. Come along and enjoy not only the AGM but also a special musical performance (we always feature a local singer) AND a beautiful lunch provided by legendary local MKS Kebabs!

Promisetown Picnic
Reconnecting community through creativity, celebration and shared joy.
Supported by community events funding from the City of Whittlesea and the generous in-kind support of Thomastown Recreation & Aquatic Centre (TRAC), the Promisetown Picnic became one of TNH's most memorable post-pandemic community celebrations.
Between 2022 and 2024, Thomastown Neighbourhood House proudly delivered six Promisetown Picnic events, bringing thousands of community members together to reconnect, celebrate diversity, and rediscover the joy of being together after the challenges and isolation of COVID-19.
Held in the unique outdoor grounds of TRAC, the Promisetown Picnic transformed the space into a vibrant festival of creativity, culture and community spirit. The event featured an exciting mix of local musicians, circus performers, magicians, roving entertainers, multicultural performances and high-energy dance workshops. A highlight each year was the community dance project delivered in partnership with Indigenous Outreach Projects, inviting people of all ages and backgrounds to move, learn and celebrate together.
Designed with families at heart, the Promisetown Picnic offered a huge range of free activities for children and young people, including arts and crafts, puppet making, plant potting, face painting, interactive workshops and hands-on creative experiences. Each event traditionally concluded with a spectacular circus performance, leaving audiences of all ages inspired and delighted.
The Promisetown Picnic also showcased the remarkable creativity of local makers through a bustling community makers market. Artists, crafters and creators from across Thomastown had the opportunity to share and sell their handmade goods, many of whom participate in TNH's Community Craft Connections program. Visitors can continue to support these talented local makers throughout the year through the TNH Community Coffee Cart, which proudly stocks a selection of locally handmade products.
More than a festival, the Promisetown Picnic became a powerful symbol of community recovery, resilience and belonging—demonstrating what is possible when neighbours, artists, performers, volunteers and community organisations come together to create something truly special.
